Cope with physical health concerns
Managing a chronic illness is hard. It can zap your energy, take up your time, diminish your abilities, and leave you feeling robbed of your identity.
I can help you feel like yourself again, and get your life back.
I have extensive training in health psychology, a specialty that helps with all areas pertaining to the intersection of physical and emotional health. I have practiced psychology within specialty medical clinics, including oncology, chronic pain management, primary care, organ transplant, palliative care, and hospice.
Chronic Pain
I provide a supportive space where you can talk openly about how chronic pain is affecting your energy, daily activities, and quality of life. Together, we can build practical coping skills such as relaxation, mindfulness, activity pacing, healthier sleep habits, problem-solving, and new ways of thinking about pain so you can stay connected to the activities that matter most to you. I also offer Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), an approach designed to help change the way the brain interprets certain pain signals and reduce fear and distress associated with pain.
Sleep Problems
When sleep is difficult, it can affect how you feel and function throughout the day. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), I can help you better understand what may be getting in the way of restful sleep and gently build healthier sleep patterns. Together, we can work on practical strategies to calm a busy mind, improve sleep habits, and help you feel more rested and confident about sleep.
Autoimmune Conditions
I offer a compassionate space to explore how an autoimmune condition may be affecting your mood, energy, relationships, routines, and overall well-being. Together, we can develop helpful strategies for managing stress, navigating changes in your health, living with uncertainty, and maintaining connection with the people and activities that are meaningful to you.
Cancer
A cancer diagnosis can be life changing, bringing fear, stress, grief, and many unexpected changes. I provide a supportive space where you can talk openly about the emotional impact of living with cancer, including the challenges of treatment and changes in daily life. Together, we can develop practical ways to cope, manage difficult emotions, and help you feel more supported throughout treatment and beyond.
Diabetes
Living with diabetes can require ongoing attention and adjustment, and managing it can sometimes feel overwhelming. Whether you are navigating changes in eating, physical activity, blood sugar monitoring, medications, or other parts of your care, I can help you better understand the emotional and practical challenges that may be getting in the way. Together, we can develop realistic strategies, build confidence in your self-management, and find ways to make diabetes care feel more manageable and sustainable in everyday life.
Neurological Disorders
I provide a supportive space where you can talk openly about the challenges of living with a neurological disorder and the ways it may be affecting your emotions, relationships, routines, and sense of independence. Together, we can work on managing stress, coping with changes in mood or daily life, adjusting to uncertainty, and building practical skills that support your overall well-being. My goal is to help you feel more confident, supported, and better equipped to navigate changes while staying connected to the people, activities, and parts of life that are meaningful to you.
Other Health Conditions
Many health conditions can affect your comfort, daily routines, relationships, and overall quality of life. I can help you cope with symptoms and the emotional impact of conditions such as tinnitus, TMJ disorders, headaches and migraines, gastrointestinal concerns, pelvic health conditions, and other ongoing medical concerns. Depending on your needs, treatment may include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), relaxation and stress-management strategies, mindfulness, behavior change, and approaches that reduce distress and help you feel more confident managing symptoms in everyday life.
Health Behavior Change
Making changes to your health habits can take time, and it is normal for the process to feel difficult at times. Whether your goals involve exercise, nutrition, following medical recommendations, taking medications as prescribed, or other areas of your health, I can help you better understand what may be getting in the way. Together, we can set realistic goals, build on your strengths, and develop practical strategies that make healthy changes feel more manageable, meaningful, and sustainable.
