Performing Artists

As a conservatory-trained classical musician, I know how challenging it can be to practice hours every day, prepare for auditions, compete against colleagues, listen to critiques, manage performing-limiting injuries, struggle with performance anxiety, contend with the inner critic, and to question the role of performance in one's life. The performing arts are so rewarding yet also present unique tests of physical and emotional endurance. I am passionate about helping performing artists overcome these struggles.

In my work as a clinical psychologist, I offer evidence-based psychotherapy for individuals wrestling with the challenges of being a performing artist. My goal is to help you face life's challenges more effectively as a performer and as a human being, so that you can live your life aligned with your values and increase your freedom of expression.

I am also certified in the Alexander Technique, an embodied mindfulness method taught at conservatories and performing arts schools around the world. I find it helpful to integrate the mind-body practices of this method into psychotherapy with performing artists to help decrease stress, performance anxiety, and physical pain.

Decrease anxiety

Performance anxiety can get in the way of your artistic expression and growth. You can learn ways to manage and reduce this anxiety, so that you can feel confident when you go on stage.

Increase enjoyment of practicing and performing

Our inner critics are thieves of joy! Learn to manage negative thoughts so that doing what you love is a joyful experience.

Cope with performance-limiting injuries

It can be devastating to face an injury that prevents you from performing. Learn how to manage setbacks in a constructive way, and move forward.

Increase tolerance of constructive feedback

Being an artist or a student of the arts means receiving feedback - which often sounds like criticism! Learn to be more receptive and gain peace with the process.

Learn calming techniques to use before auditions

Learn specific methods that you can practice right before going on stage, so that you are in the right mindset and feel grounded and calm.

Improve mood

Is feeling down getting in the way of doing what you love? We can work on improving your mood or managing depression.

Gain artistic clarity

Artists often struggle with deciding how to integrate the arts into their life. Uncertainty with auditions, university programs, and career options can be a challenge. Therapy can be a space to gain clarity about what is most important in your artistic and broader life.

Learn mindfulness

We live in a world full of distraction. Learning mindfulness practices can help you to focus and be present in the moment with what is most important to you, whether that is performing or doing other meaningful activities in your life.
